FIREFIGHTER

Under regular supervision, receives and responds to fire alarms and other emergency calls as required, and performs the necessary functions and operations to efficiently and effectively protect the lives and property of those in need of assistance.  Operates fire apparatus at the scene of emergencies and provides medical assistance at the First Responder, EMT or Paramedic level as certified.  Performs related work as required.  Requires high school diploma or GED equivalent supplemented by formal training, special courses or self-education that is equivalent to satisfactory completion of one year of college education or specialized advanced training in fire service or a closely related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.  Must complete required coursework and maintain Interior Structural Firefighter and other certifications as issued by the S.C. Fire Academy.  Must possess a valid state driver’s license.  Must possess CPR and First Aid certification; may be required to possess EMT or Paramedic certification.  Entry Level Salary $26,401.00

COMMUNICATIONS TECHNICIAN

 

Examples of work performed:  Performs dispatch duties for the City, including receiving in-coming emergency and non-emergency calls and dispatching calls for law enforcement, fire and other services to appropriate personnel in an accurate, timely and professional manner.  Answers in-coming emergency and non-emergency calls; enters into computer-aided dispatch system; provides assistance and information to callers.  Answers administration telephone lines; transfers calls to appropriate extension, pages personnel and takes messages as necessary.  Monitors and responds to radio communications; provides information and directions to officers and other personnel in the field.  Works under stressful conditions.  Requires high school diploma or GED equivalent supplemented by formal training, special courses or self-education that is equivalent to satisfactory completion of one year of college education or specialized advanced training in emergency dispatch operations, telecommunications or a closely related field, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.  Apply Personnel Dept. COMMUNITY SERVICES OFFICER

 

Performs various routine and specialized clerical activities to assist Police Department officers.  Monitors police radio communications; receives and transmits radio messages.  Answers the telephone; take after incident reports of stolen vehicles, bicycles and other property reports of found property, with the exception of firearms and drugs, provides information and assistance to callers; routes calls to appropriate personnel and takes messages as necessary.  Take reports of vehicle break-ins and dust for latent fingerprints, when applicable.  Receives information for, prepares and processes incident reports.  Issues parking citations, may patrol shopping centers and other populated areas as a deterrent to crime, and performs Special Patrol Requests.  Enters information into / retrieves information from NCIC and other computers.  Locates and duplicates department records and reports for officers, attorneys, court personnel, outside agencies and the general public as requested and as appropriate.  Performs other related duties as required.  Requires high school diploma or GED equivalent supplemented by one to two years of general clerical experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.  Apply Personnel Dept. PERSONNEL TECHNICIAN I

Performs routine-to-moderately complex technical and clerical work in support of Personnel Department operations.  Receives and processes applications for employment.  Prepares, processes, maintains, copies, files and/or transmits various documents, including but not limited to personnel records and reports, insurance / other benefit records and reports, payroll records / reports, accident / injury reports, correspondence, etc.  Requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent supplemented by one to two years of administrative or clerical experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.  Submit resume to Personnel Director, City of North Charleston, PO Box 190016, North Charleston, SC 29419.
