Employee of the Month
It is a privilege to announce Private First Class Drew Ivey as “Employee of the Month” for December 2012. This recognition speaks highly of his character and performance as a member of the North Charleston Police Department.
In August of 2012, Pfc. Ivey devised a plan for the Christmas Holiday that would enhance the relationship between at-risk children in our community and the North Charleston Police Department. The strategy was to provide children from each bureau an opportunity to spend a day with a North Charleston Police Officer and also provide the children with a $150.00 gift card to purchase holiday gifts while shopping with the officers.
With financial help from businesses throughout the city, “Kids and Cops” took shape. On December 15th, the day began with breakfast with the children and cops. From there, it was on to Wal-Mart for a shopping spree. Some of the police officers also involved their family members and altogether they spent the day building relationships that no doubt affected everyone that participated. The officers intervened and some even used their own money so that there were no disappointments. Once the shopping spree ended, the “Kids and Cops” were treated to lunch courtesy of a local restaurant.
One of the core values of the North Charleston Police Department is to enhance community relations. The “Kids and Cops” program was successful because Pfc. Ivey saw a need and an opportunity. He then worked tirelessly to make it come to fruition. His effort reflects distinct credit upon himself, the North Charleston Police Department, and the law enforcement profession.
