Please join NCPD in congratulating Pfc. Jacob Bloomer and K-9 Faro for a Commendation and Employee of the Month for May. On May 10, Pfc. Bloomer was actively patrolling the Northwoods Blvd. business district due to an increase in property crimes in the area. He saw a pickup truck crossing the center double dividing lines. The vehicle had window tint that appeared to be illegal. A traffic stop revealed the driver was wanted by the Mt. Pleasant Police Department. Officer Bloomer’s investigation and an exterior sniff by his partner K-9 Faro alerted the vehicle for suspicion of drugs in the truck. A probable cause search turned up an unlawfully carried handgun, Methamphetamine and Fentanyl. Additionally, a suspicious cylinder with a fuse sticking out of the side was found in the truck bed that appeared to be a homemade bomb. The Charleston County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad responded to examine the suspicious object. Testing confirmed that it was indeed a bomb that if detonated would have caused a large explosion capable of mass casualties. Several charges were filed against the suspect, including Possession of a Destructive Device. Due to Pfc. Bloomer and K-9 Faro’s outstanding work, the sheriff’s office was able to file additional charges against the suspect. Great job!
