The North Charleston Police Department proudly announces that Christopher Smith has been awarded the “Lifesaving Award” for March 2024. On March 29th, Officer Smith responded to a welfare check at a residence in Watson Hill following a concerning 911 call that was disconnected.
At the scene, Ptl. Smith attempted to contact someone at the home but was unsuccessful. However, he noticed a small opening in the garage and saw a woman lying face down, bleeding and unresponsive. He quickly forced the garage open and got her to intermittently respond to sternum rubs, keeping her conscious long enough for Dorchester County EMS to take over. Ptl. Smith determined that the woman had overdosed on Xanax tablets, and she was taken to a hospital for further treatment.
Congratulations to Officer Smith on his outstanding performance and well-deserved recognition!
