Please join the North Charleston Police Department in congratulating Cpl. Tiffani Crider, who has been named the “Employee of the Month” for December 2023. In April 2018, we received a report of the sexual assault of an 11-year-old special needs girl.
Sadly, in 2020, the same victim, now 13 years old, was sexually assaulted again. Despite investigations by a former detective, no suspects were identified in either case, and both investigations went cold. In 2019, Cpl. Crider took on the 2018 case again.
She conducted a thorough investigation and identified Emeric Hamilton as a person of interest. However, with no concrete evidence to prove that Hamilton was the offender, the investigation was closed. Cpl. Crider did not give up.
She reopened the 2020 case and conducted a renewed investigation, which led to the identification of Hamilton as a person of interest in the second case. Cpl. Crider discovered that Hamilton’s DNA profile was in the Combined DNA Index System database.
She obtained a search warrant for a DNA swab from Hamilton and sent the sample to the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division. The DNA results positively linked Hamilton to the crime, and he was arrested. On November 29, 2023, Hamilton was found guilty of Criminal Sexual Conduct with a Minor 2nd Degree and sentenced to 20 years in prison. Cpl. Crider’s outstanding dedication and hard work helped solve the case, and we are proud to have her as a member of our team.
