The City of North Charleston responded swiftly to a significant water main break that occurred yesterday afternoon on Baker Ave in the Accabee neighborhood of North Charleston. The main break resulted in 55 homes without water service.
Repairs are finished and water was restored around 2:30 pm today. In the meantime, the City of North Charleston, in collaboration with Charleston Water System, Councilman Michael Brown, and community leading, provided extensive support to affected residents.
To ensure the community’s needs were met, the city provided bottled water and Charleston Water System deployed water buffalos to the area. City officials went door-to-door, performing welfare checks and distributing essential supplies.
The North Charleston Building Department has conducted comprehensive damage assessments and confirmed that no homes have been damaged and no residents have been displaced. The North Charleston Fire Department has also tested all hydrants in the neighborhood to ensure they are functioning properly, with contingencies in place to address any potential issues.
Mayor Reggie Burgess, currently out of town with the Liberty Hill Enrichment After School Program, for which he serves as a mentor, has been in constant communication with key city staff and community members since the incident occurred. His dedication to the well-being of North Charleston’s residents remains steadfast, and he continues to monitor the situation closely to ensure a swift and effective response.
