City of North Charleston Seeking Artist-in-Residence for Pilot Program

The City of North Charleston Cultural Arts Department is launching an Artist-in-Residence (AIR) Pilot Program that will take place August-October 2024. One South Carolina visual artist will be selected to serve as the City’s Artist-in-Residence and create work in the AIR Studio located within the Park Circle Community Building (PCCB) at 4800 Park Circle in North Charleston. The AIR Studio at PCCB is a 270 sq.ft. space where artists can work freely while sharing their art and artistic practice with the community. In addition to utilizing the studio to create new work, the resident artist will provide learning opportunities and programs for the community and present an exhibition of their work at PCCB. After the conclusion and evaluation of the AIR Pilot Program, regular residencies will take place Jan-Mar, Apr-Jun, Jul-Sep, and Oct-Dec each year. The application for this AIR Pilot Program may be accessed at https://NorthCharlestonCulturalArtsDepartment.Slideroom.com. Deadline to apply is Friday, July 12, 2024.

South Carolina-based visual artists age 25+ working in any medium that can be managed safely in the studio are welcome to apply for the North Charleston Artist-in-Residence Pilot Program. Preference will be given to artists based in the SC Lowcountry. A $2000 stipend will be offered to the selected artist. The Artist-in-Residence (AIR) will serve as a visual art ambassador for the North Charleston community. Along with offering public open studio hours, the AIR is expected to engage in a minimum of two community engagement activities during the residency period. These activities can include, but are not limited to artist talks, demonstrations, workshops/classes for children and/or adults, a public art project, studio tours, collaborative art projects, participating in community events, etc.

Interested artists should complete the Artists-in-Residence Pilot Program application at https://NorthCharlestonCulturalArtsDepartment.Slideroom.com. There is no fee to apply. In addition to answering a series of questions and agreeing to terms/conditions, artists will be asked to upload a minimum of five quality images of their work along with a current CV. Applications should be submitted no later than 11:59pm on Friday, July 12, 2024. Artists in need of assistance with the application process may contact the Cultural Arts Department to schedule a one-on-one meeting, which can be conducted over the phone or in person.
