Tropical Storm Debby Update #2 – North Charleston Operations and Important Information for Residents

The City of North Charleston and its emergency management personnel are closely monitoring Tropical Storm Debby. Preparedness efforts are being coordinated with the Charleston and Dorchester County Emergency Management Departments, along with regional agency partners.

City Operations

All City of North Charleston offices will operate on a normal schedule on Monday, August 5.

Citizen Information Line

Trash Collection

North Charleston Sanitation services will operate as scheduled on Monday, August 5 with the remainder of the week’s schedule dependent on Charleston County Landfill’s operations.

Sandbag Operations

Sandbags for North Charleston residents can be obtained starting Monday, August 5, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at North Charleston Athletic Center, 5794 Casper Padgett Way, North Charleston, SC 29406.

Proof of North Charleston residency must be provided. No businesses. This is a drive-through operation. Residents will pull up to one of the listed distribution sites, and city staff will load up to six filled sandbags into the vehicle until supplies are exhausted.

Shelter Information

The designated shelter for residents and pets will open on Monday, August 5 at 8 a.m. at the Charleston County Sheriff’s Administration Building at 3841 Leeds Avenue. If you plan to relocate to the shelter, please bring the following items:

  • Bedding
  • Clothing
  • Medications
  • Emergency kit

Pets are allowed, but residents must stay with their animals and cannot drop them off. Remember to bring comfort items with you to the shelter. Individuals can access the shelter via normal CARTA routes.

Stormwater Management

The North Charleston Public Works department is actively clearing and servicing low-lying areas of the city. Residents are encouraged to report any potential stormwater issues by texting 833-532-0077.
