The North Charleston Police Department, the North Charleston Fire Department, Charleston County Consolidated Dispatch, and the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) recently participated in a reality-based active shooter training drill.
During the drill, MUSC employees continued their normal operations while role players acted as patients. The scenario of an active shooter was initiated, prompting MUSC staff to activate their emergency protocols and contact Consolidated Dispatch. In turn, Consolidated Dispatch alerted first responders.
Full-scale drills like this are designed to test the efficiency and effectiveness of the responses and training of the police and fire departments. We thank MUSC for inviting us to participate in this valuable training exercise.
