Built in the early 1990s, North Charleston Coliseum has always been surrounded by surface parking to accommodate a very large influx of concert and entertainment-goers. As the region grows, there becomes and greater and greater need for infill development. The Coliseum Complex is located in the heart of the region near the interchange of I-26 and I-526, making it ideal for redevelopment. In order to be able to accommodate a high number of visitors to the Coliseum, Performing Arts Center, and Convention Center, a 2,000 space parking garage will be constructed to free up surface parking for a higher value use.
