The North Charleston Police Department was formed in 1972 with 19 Police Officers, and five support personnel. Today, the department employs over 340 sworn officers and 85 civilian employees who proudly serve a growing population of approximately 90,000 that swells to over 200,000 during the daytime hours accommodating workers, visitors, tourists and shoppers.
The North Charleston Police Department’s mission is to provide professional public safety services while working in partnership with the citizens of North Charleston to identify, prevent and solve the problems of crime, social disorder and neighborhood decay, thereby improving the quality of life in our community.
The City of North Charleston is divided in to twelve zones patrolled 24 hours per day.
