NCPD honors Chief Burgess during Black History Month

NCPD is celebrating Black History Month, honoring Chief Reggie Burgess, the first African American police chief in our agency’s history. Chief Burgess grew up in North Charleston, in the Union Heights and Liberty Hill neighborhoods. He joined NCPD in 1989 and in 1993 rose through the rank of Corporal. In 1995 he rose to the rank of Sergeant, the rank of Lieutenant in 1999, the rank of Captain in 2004 and the rank of Deputy Chief in 2007. In 2013 he was promoted to the rank Assistant Police Chief. In January 2018 Assistant Chief Burgess was promoted to Chief. Chief Burgess said, “Becoming the police chief of the City of North Charleston is truly a blessing.” Chief Burgess loves the men and women of NCPD, the city of North Charleston and takes pride in preserving citizens’ lives.
