Last week the NCPD K-9 unit completed its annual certification week with approximately 50 other teams from across the state. Our K-9 teams certify in obedience, building searches, apprehension, narcotics detection, and tracking. The annual seminar follows the certifications with a week of training in real life scenario based training that includes the re-creation of actual events and other planned activities all designed to teach our handlers and K-9’s how to respond to the high stress events they may encounter working the road. There are too many to list but to give a snapshot there are actively aggressive suspects, vehicle extractions, dark rooms, area and article searches, and hot pursuit drills among many others.
