The North Charleston Police Department appoints LGBTQ+ liaisons to both serve the community and officers within the agency. Detective Tiffani Crider and Crime Prevention Officer Paiam Etminan will be leading this initiative. Responsibilities will include serving as the contact point between the police department and the LGBTQ+ community members, collaborate on issues relating to the LGBTQ+ community, and act as peer support for officers that are members of the LGBTQ+ community. There will be other officers appointed as liaisons as well in the future. These officers will be identified by wearing a pin on their uniform, all of the time.
Additionally, during the month of June, officers with the agency will also be allowed to wear the LGBTQ+ Pride Flag pin on their uniform to show support. A small donation will be collected from each officer wearing the pin and the proceeds will go to the local Alliance for Full Acceptance organization in North Charleston.
The North Charleston Police Department is always looking for ways to foster stronger relationships within the community we serve, along, with an inclusive work environment. This initiative is just one way we will achieve that goal. #PathForward
