Traffic stops are one of the most common activities for police officers. They are the epitome of proactive, self-initiated policing. Traffic stops also allow officers to provide citizens key information about what is going on in the area through positive communication. Recruits at NCPD will work for several weeks to make sure they learn communication skills, de-escalation, and response to resistance training. Recruits wear safety equipment and have training weapons during the exercise to simulate the challenges officers might face. The training helps instructors teach officers how to stay calm and professional during possible stressful situations.
